As one of the most exciting summer events in Toronto, the annual Toronto International Dragon Boat Festival kicked off on Jun 16th, 2018 to celebrate its 30th anniversary. As an event supplier for the festival, Guan Yin Citta Canada Culture Center attended on June 18th, 2018 and provided a “Free Vegetarian Tasting Event” to promote Vegetarian life style and Buddhism.

Volunteers from Guan Yin Citta Canada Culture Center prepared various kinds of exquisite vegetarian food for tourists coming to this event, including Zongzi, a classic Chinese holiday food for Dragon Boat Festival. They were made of glutinous rice stuffed with different fillings and wrapped in bamboo leaves. Besides Zongzi, coconut glutinous rice cakes, veggie burgers and vegetarian barbecue with homemade sauce were all incredibly popular. Everything provided to the visitors was free.

In addition to the delicious food, many tourists were attracted by the big banners outside the booth. Volunteers from Guan Yin Citta warmly welcomed the tourists who came to consult, explaining the benefits of being vegetarian and its importance in Buddhist practice.

In the afternoon, around 1pm, some kids from Guan Yin Citta Culture Center Children’s Class joined the event. Accompanied with their teachers, kids were happily singing and playing with their parents in the shades of trees. They spent a joyful and meaningful Father’s Day together.
